RESIDENTIAL OR NURSING HOME VISITS

As part of our commitment to helping our older generation stay fit and healthier for longer we offer visits to Residential Homes and Nursing Homes.

Do you have a loved one in a Care Home?

Are you concerned about them becoming increasingly frail?

Have they had a fall?

Are they at risk of falling?

Are they developing stiffness in their arms or legs?

Are they needing more and more support from the Care Home staff?

Are they waiting for community services but the waiting lists are really long?

Would they benefit from a Physiotherapy Assessment

Have you identified issues with your loved ones but are not sure where to go?

Often Care Home Staff are motivated to help but need guidance before they can get involved.

Once a full assessment is completed we can guide family, friends and staff on recommendations to address any specific issues. Preventative measures are always preferable to reactive involvement.

Did You Know?

Without exercise we can lose 10% body strength per decade over the age of 30

It is estimated that one in three over 65's will have at least one fall per year, with approximately 50% of these being considered 'regular fallers'

In the UK, falling in the over 75's constitutes the highest risk of injury-related deaths

Muscle power starts to lessen in approximately 3 days of bed-rest!

Muscle tightness (contractures) can develop equally quickly without regular movement or stretching.

What to do?

Reducing the risk of falls requires an individual to take some simple steps.

Make sure you have an up-to-date eye test

Assess your home for trip hazards, or better yet, ask a professional to do it for you.

Exercise can help to reduce the risk of falls. The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) recommends 2 hours of supervised exercise per week for 6 months.

If you're concerned, book an assessment with a professional to help identify any specific issues

What can we do?

At South Notts Physio we have made a commitment to helping to guide those deemed 'at risk of falling' to help keep them fit, active & safe in their advancing years.

Starting to do some regular exercise can often feel like a daunting task.

Where do I start?

How much should I do?

Is it safe to be exercising?

We offer personalised guidance for individuals who feel they would benefit from assistance. By setting up an individualised exercise program completed initially under supervision we are able to identify areas that need to be improved upon and facilitate this process. We have designed a specific assessment process for our elderly population to identify risk factors, current levels of exercise tolerance & specific goals. We want to work together with the family, carers, friends and staff to ensure individual needs are tended to.

What about if your family member is currently not able to mobilise?

Individuals that are unable to mobilise are prone to developing 'contractures' in key muscle groups. Contractures develop if muscles are not regularly stretched and can make personal care and positioning very difficult, not to mention very painful.

Simple stretches, done regularly can help prevent worsening contractures and are essential for people who are unable to mobilise.

in-depth assessment

We complete a detailed assessment in the Residential or Nursing home addressing all areas of concern.

Full report

Once we have assessed an individual we will write a detailed report of our findings. This will be provided to carers, staff, GP's or family members to ensure everyone is on the same page.

you decide

Once the assessment and report have been done, the individual and their family decide what how they'd like to progress, without obligation.
